Wagner, 2.8kW Hybrid Off Grid System, Old West Ranch (Tehachapi), California

Ken and Teresa Wagner shed the complications and stress of city life to bring their family to a beautiful mountain retreat - they purchased and refurbished an off grid house on a spacious piece of land in Old West Ranch. The house required a lot of work, and the renewable energy system was completely outdated. They will use some of the components which are still working (the PV modules) for a reworked system to power their guest cabin, but for the main house, they asked Rain or Shine to design something which would give them plenty of power for a family of four. We put in a 1kW Bergey wind turbine, along with almost 2kW of solar modules. A 5kW 230/120 Volt inverter powers the house, as well as an array of power tools used for the renovation. A separate solar array is dedicated to the new DC well pump. The contiuous low flow pump in combination with a large storage tanke is perfect for the depleted well and provides plenty of water.
