Rain or Shine team members
have international experience with design, installation, service, and
testing of renewable energy systems from simple 1kW home systems to multi-megawatt
utility owned wind parks. The founding partners of Rain or Shine each
have over ten years experience in renewable energy.
Our Strengths
Highly Experienced
Our team includes highly experienced wind energy engineers who have worked
together as a successful team for years
Successful Technology
Transfer
We are particularly experienced in technology transfer across national
and cultural boundaries. We bring engineers, end users, and service personnel
up to speed on new technology
International
We are a multinational team – European and American citizens, with
partners and customers throughout the world. We have an open and inclusive
mindset, and appreciate and strive to use broad and diverse perspectives.
Network
We are connected with a vast network of highly experienced manufacturers,
designers, and specialty consultants. Therefore we always have access
to cutting edge technology and design practices
Technology Development
and Exchange
We are active in technology development and exchange. We have published
articles and papers on innovative products for the wind industry as well
as abstract selection and presentation moderation for trade associations.
Hands On
We are involved in all stages of development including manufacturing,
erection, commissioning. All team members are active in field troubleshooting
and repair on a regular basis, resulting in reality-based designs.
Safety and Reliability
Safety and Reliability is of utmost importance. It is a personal concern
because our friends and family operate and service our wind turbine designs.
We are committed to long term project success

Rain Byars
has worked in the wind industry for ten years in the roles of design
engineer, product manager, fleet manager, engineering management and
engineering consulting. With a degree in mechanical engineering from
Carnegie Mellon University, and a design focus on reliability, safety
and serviceability, Ms. Byars has led both new product development
and fleet upgrade efforts. Ms. Byars has worked with wind project
owners and operators in the US and Europe to identify and recommend
solutions for improvement of park availability, power performance,
cost of operation, and safety. Most recently Ms. Byars has led whole
turbine electrical system development from blank slate through prototype
commissioning. Ms. Byars is the owner and General Manager of Rain
or Shine, a renewable energy engineering business.

| William
Miller
|
|
William Miller has a
background in engineering design and development spanning over 20
years, with over ten years in the wind energy industry and the rest
in the aerospace industry. Mr Miller was responsible for designing
sub-systems for turbines such as the Zond Energy Systems 550 &
750kw turbines, subcontractor selection, and prescribing design refinements
to the Tacke 1.5MW turbine for transformation into the Enron Wind
1.5MW turbine suitable for the American market. This turbine is now
the GE wind energy flagship with many thousands deployed. Mr Miller’s
experience also includes consultation during the assembly of the Clipper
Wind “Liberty” series prototype in Carpenteria, CA. Mr.
Miller led the design drafting team’s efforts and coordinated
the assembly of the Conergy 900kw prototypes in Bremerhaven Germany.
Mr Miller is now responsible for leading the systems integration of
a 1.25MW wind turbine, with focus on safety and ease of service, reliability
and maintenance. |

Christiane Schmöller
has worked in the wind industry for six years in the roles of project
manager and product manager for different megawatt scale wind turbine
platforms. In the role of project manager Ms. Schmöller was responsible
for the successful establishment, technology transfer and training
of an engineering team in China, as well as coordinating cross-functional
teams including technical, sales, and procurement personnel on turbine
requirements, target markets and material cost out. With engineering
teams in Germany, China and the US, Ms. Schmöller realized the
turbine adaptation to defined market requirements and state-of-the
art of technology. As product manager Ms. Schmöller was responsible
for design certification of turbine technology. Since 2005, in her
position as project manager for a wind turbine design consulting company,
Ms. Schmöller has been responsible for the coordination of mechanical
design of new turbines including component specification and technical
clarification with suppliers, and coordination of load simulation
and design certification.
900kW turbine development: leading of mechanical design, development
1.25MW turbine development: input for load simulation, coordination
of loads for all components, specification of yaw system, mechanical
pitch system, bearings and support of gearbox component owner, brake
system, coupling, bolt connection calculation. Coordination of certification
process.

Michael
Hiller |
|
Michael Hiller has been
working for more than a year in the wind industry. As the Head of
System Integration he is responsible for all the CAD-data and the
related drawings. He’s directly involved in the design process
itself. The hub and the main frame as the two crucial parts of the
1.25MW-WTG are mainly designed by him in interaction with the mechanical
team.
During his first engagement at an engineering services company one
focus was on engine design (cast components) at Volkswagen AG. He
has more than 5 years of practical Pro/ENGINEER-experience and was
also active as a project manager doing consulting and giving workshops
for several companies, e.g. Siemens AG, SMS Demag AG, Innovative Windpower
GmbH.
